Emily, the Professional

I'm a web designer living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I work from my home office, telecommuting to my employer's corporate office in Lanham, Maryland. Yeah, I'm seriously lucky, and I totally know and appreciate it.
Can't say that I love my job, but I love what I do and my immediate colleagues are amazing folks to work with. And the telecommuting makes it that much nicer.
Academic
I graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts from St. Mary's College of Maryland. There weren't any majors or minors at the time; more like a liberal arts degree. I did have a focus in psychology, specifically abnormal psychology.
At the time, I barely knew what the Internet was, and I only used a computer for writing papers — nothing more. I'm always amused at how I ended up a web designer.
In 2003, I earned a professional certificate in Web Design & Development from George Washington University. To be honest, I only learned about five new things in two years of the program. Most of what I learned during that time was self-taught. But I stuck with it because my then-employer paid for it, and I wanted that "piece of paper" for my resumé.
Today, I try to attend at least one major web conference or event per year — paid for graciously by my current employer.
Hire Me?
Wanna take me away from the "joys" of working for a huge corporate monster? I'm currently looking for the right opportunity. Got one?
As for freelance gigs, I'm fairly picky, but always willing to talk.
